Sinfonia of Leeds, the region’s leading non-professional Orchestra, will be accompanying one of the country’s top young talents at a concert at Leeds University’s Great Hall in November.

13 year-old pianist, Yuanfan Yang, raised in Leeds and now studying at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, was a finalist in the 2010 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. He will be performing Prokofiev’s demanding 1st Piano Concerto.

‘This is the first time that we been able to place confidence in someone as young as Yuanfan,’ said orchestra chairman, Stephan Brown. ‘I suspect that in a few years, the orchestra will be able to boast that we played a small part in the development of one of the world’s top pianists.’

The concert also features Nielsen’s Aladdin Suite, and his powerful 3rd symphony, the Sinfonia Espansiva. Tickets are available from Carriageworks, Millennium Square, Leeds (0113) 224 3801, Gateway Yorkshire Tourist Information (0113) 242 5242 or on the door.

Saturday 13th November at 7.30pm, Leeds University’s Great Hall.
